Math 8

Math 8 is offered to students in the 8th grade using the Connected Mathematics Program (CMP), a nationally recognized research-based Middle School mathematics program developed at Michigan State. In 8th Grade Pre-Algebra, students are introduced to concepts they will be exploring more in depth when they take Algebra I in high school.
The course also reviews some concepts from 7th Grade Pre-Algebra and basic math skills needed for success in any math class.

This course has four focal points.
  1. Algebra-linear and non-linear functions. Analyzing and representing both functions; solving linear and non-linear equations. Solving inequalities.
  2. Geometry and Measurement - Developing and understanding of and using formulas to determine surface areas and volumes of three-dimensional shapes.
  3. Analyzing two-and three space and figures by using distance and angle.
  4. Data analysis and Number Operations Algebra - Analyzing and Summarizing data sets
