Adjusted English Language Arts

The adjusted classroom uses The Daily Five teaching method with implementation of the CAFÉ strategy. The Daily 5 is a series of literacy tasks reading to self, reading with someone, listening to reading, working with words and working on writing which students complete daily while the teacher meets with small groups or confers with individuals.  Our goal is to create a structure that will help students develop the daily habits that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy.  The CAFÉ system is an acronym for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand Vocabulary.  The system includes goal-setting with students, small group instruction based on clusters of students with similar goals, and focusing whole-class instruction on emerging student needs.
